From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Writing on the Goop website, the 48-year-old explained that the virus had left her with some symptoms, such as fatigue.
“I had Covid-19 early on, and it left me with some long-tail fatigue and brain fog,” the actor wrote.
“In January, I had some tests done that showed really high levels of inflammation in my body.”
Paltrow went on to describe how she has taken care of herself since contracting the virus by adopting a new wellness regime that includes cutting out sugar and alcohol.
The NHS does not officially recommend any dietary changes for those who contract Covid-19.
“It’s keto and plant-based but flexible,” she said of her new diet, which includes consuming a bit of fish and a few pieces of meat alongside a primarily vegan diet and fasting until 11am every day.
“Everything I’m doing feels good, like a gift to my body,” she said, describing the process as a “longer-term detox”.
“I have energy, I’m working out in the mornings, and I’m doing an infrared sauna as often as I can, all in service of healing.”
Paltrow said that January was a difficult month in terms of maintaining her physical health.
“All jokes aside (no, 2021 wasn’t the easiest year to do dry January), cleaning up my diet, exercise, and even thought patterns last month left me feeling energized, healthier, and—believe it or not—wanting more.
“I’m extending this focus further, through the full first quarter.”
The wellness guru said that as part of her new regime, she is also taking a selection of supplements, which include fish oil, B vitamins, and some vitamin D3.
“A side benefit is my skin, which makes me happy—and makes me want to double down on skin care even more,” she added. “Let’s make 2021 the year of never needing makeup, people!”
The NHS advises getting daily vitamin D supplements if you’re at high risk (clinically extremely vulnerable) for coronavirus.
