From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

For couples looking for a more intimate venue for dinner this Valentine’s Day, Grand Central Terminal is advertising itself as the perfect choice.

While the transportation hub usually conjures up images of bustling New Yorkers running to catch trains, this year, Grand Central Terminal is promising one couple an “exclusive opportunity” to spend the holiday of love in what will be an otherwise completely empty main concourse.

In addition to having the terminal to themselves, the lucky couple - chosen through an Instagram contest - will get to enjoy a three-course dinner with wine pairings Michelin-starred restaurant Agern, special cocktails from Campbell Bar, gifts of candles and chocolate, and photographs of the night taken by a professional photographer.

The dinner will also be accompanied by music, performed by a Steinway artist on a Steinway & Sons grand piano.

If that didn’t sound romantic enough, the winning couple will also have access to a 13,000-square-foot presidential suite at the Grand Hyatt hotel, for a night worth a total retail value of $2,300.

However, there is just one catch - the opportunity requires staying up late into the night, as dinner is scheduled to take place at 2.30am for two hours on Friday 14 February.

“Grand Central is celebrating Valentine’s Day with an exclusive opportunity for one couple to spend a magical night under the stars of the Terminal’s iconic zodiac ceiling,” the contest description reads. “The entire Main Concourse will belong exclusively to one lucky couple on Friday, February 14 from 2:30 am for two hours.”

To enter the competition, interested parties have to follow the transportation terminal’s lifestyle account @love.GCT, like it’s recent “Valentines Under the Stars" post and tag a “date/soulmate/spouse/bestie that you’d like to share dinner with”.

According to the account, entry will be closed on Friday, 7 February, with the winner to be chosen at random on 10 February and notified via Instagram direct message.

You can find more information about the contest here.
