Gigi Hadid has shown her pregnancy bump to the public for the first time since announcing she and boyfriend Zayn Malik were expecting their first child together.

In an Instagram TV video uploaded on Wednesday, the 25-year-old model unveiled a special issue of V Magazine that she helped to produce as a guest creative director.

The issue, titled Gigi Journal Part II, features different works of art as submitted by people from around the world during lockdown and has been partly created to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

Talking to the camera while flicking through the issue, Hadid explained she hadn’t been sharing pictures of her baby bump with fans because “it’s not the most important thing in the world” right now.

Instead, she has wanted to focus on using her platform to promote worthwhile causes, such as the Black Lives Matter movement.

“Right now I just want to experience it and I write in my journal a lot and I just don’t want to worry about waking up every day and look cute and post something,” she said.

Hadid, who has been isolating on her mother’s farm in Pennsylvania, added that she has been sending many photographs of the bump to her friends and family members.

“A lot of people are confused by why I am not sharing more but I am pregnant through a pandemic, obviously my pregnancy is not the most important thing going on in the world, that’s in part why I didn’t feel a need to share, apart from with my family and friends,” she continued.

“Obviously a lot of people have lost lives due to coronavirus – that was in the beginning of quarantining and it’s still happening – and then we moved into obviously the re-emergence of the BLM movement and I thought our presence on social media should be used for that.”

Hadid’s comments come after she criticised British Vogue when the publication shared an article claiming she was “disguising” her pregnancy by not showing fans her bump.

The magazine published an article on its website with the headline “Gigi Hadid reveals how she disguises her pregnancy”.

But Hadid replied to clarify that she was not trying to hide her pregnancy.

“Will be proud and happy to share ‘insight’ when I feel like it, thanks,” she replied to one of the magazine’s tweets promoting the article.

“For now I am proudly experiencing and sharing this time with my family and loved ones.”
