From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will follow Cal Kestis, a padawan who escaped Order 66, the Jedi massacre we witness in Revenge of the Sith. Gotham and Shameless star Cameron Morgan portrays Cal, who attempts to keep his identity hidden from the world, working as a salvager on a planet named Bracca.
One of the many villains you’ll cross paths with – and inevitably battle – is the Second Sister, a member of the Galactic Empire’s Inquisitorius, tasked with hunting down Jedi. Fans of Rebels will be familiar with another of the Inquisitors, the Seventh Sister.
Players will also face the newly designed Purge Troopers, who have been specifically trained to aid Inquisitors in hunting down the Jedi. However, Cal will have allies too, in the form of his droid companion, BD-1, and a former Jedi Knight who serves as a friend and mentor, played by Debra Wilson.
At the Star Wars Celebration panel for the game, creators were quick to stress that the focus here is on the linear story – there is no multiplayer and no microtransactions. It will also feature a combat system that will emphasise “thoughtful combat” over button mashing, with players required to tailor their approach for each enemy, finding ways to exploit their weaknesses.
Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order will be released on 15 November.
