From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

There are 10 different cakes to dance in front of, each one placed in a different location on the map. Fortnite players have been sharing where to find them on Twitter and Reddit, as well as through YouTube explainer videos.
The beginning of Fornite's birthday was marked with down time, as the popular Battle Royale game deployed the v5.10 update. Scheduled for 9am BST, the update was scheduled to minimise disruption for Fortnite's more-than 125 million players around the world.
The Birthday Challenges have also been delayed for some players, though no explanation has been given by Fortnite developer Epic Games as to why.
"We’ve got a birthday party planned for #Fortnite1st and you’re invited! Eat cake, party and bring your friends," Fornite said on its website. "Each Birthday Challenge you complete unlocks a slice of the birthday cosmetic set."
There are three challenges for players to complete, and if all are completed an extra "Birthday Cake Black Bling" will be offered. The three challenges include dancing at different birthday cakes to unlock the Happy Birthday! Spray, dealing 1,000 damage to opponents to unlock the Fortnite Birthday! emoticon, and playing 14 matches to unlock 5,000 XP.

- Shows hours left instead of days when under 72 hours.
- Shows hours:minutes: seconds left when below 13 hours.
- Changed the background of the loading screen bullet points area to be partially translucent.
- Removed the “static noise” when switching tabs.
- The “Restore” button has been removed from the settings screen. Also, the “Reset Defaults” button has been renamed to “Reset”.
- Leaving the settings screen before applying changes will give the option to apply changes and exit or discard changes and exit.
- Double clicks now register as two clicks on a button, allowing for faster navigation through Next/Previous type buttons
For the Birthday Event, Fortnite players will also be able to improve their health and shield by consuming cake slices found nearby each of the 10 birthday cakes. The famous Fortnite Battlebus has also been decorated to celebrate the game's birthday.
