From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Subway has announced it is reopening more than 600 UK stores for delivery from Tuesday following a six-week shutdown.

The sandwich chain said it had successfully carried out tests at a small number of branches before opening the additional sites.

Executives at Subway say it has implemented a range of new measures to ensure the health and safety of both staff and customers.

These include directional signs to help with social distancing, enhanced hygiene practices as well as PPE equipment for staff.

Subway UK & Ireland director Colin Hughes said: "We have slowly and safely introduced a new store operating framework that will be rolling out across stores to protect guests, Sandwich Artists, delivery drivers and our suppliers.

"The weeks and months ahead will continue to be challenging for everyone and Subway will play its part in supporting the new normal whatever that may look and feel like.”

Customers can order Subway through delivery services Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats. For those spending more than £10, delivery is free of charge.

Mobile Order collection is also available using Subway's Subcard Loyalty App.

Subway has not released a full list of its reopened stores but is encouraging customers to check if their local shop is open by following this link.

Subway says it will continue to offer all NHS workers 25 per cent discounts on top of existing initiatives.

The chain added that it has already donated more than a quarter of a million subs to local communities, key workers and those who really needed them.

The US-based franchise is among a number of large-scale chains that have begun easing back into business following a six-week shut down.

KFC, Pret and Burger King have all reopened outlets while McDonald's set to trial 15 stores for delivery from Wednesday.
