Pigs in blankets are agreed by many to be a staple of a slap-up Christmas dinner.

But, putting the pork creations on a cheesecake? Divisive.

That’s exactly what the baking wizards at London-based cheesecake outlet Pleesecakes have done this festive season, however.

Called The Notorious P.I.B. (Pigs in Blanket Savoury Cheesecake), a riff on US rapper Notorious B.I.G. (or Ruth Bader Ginsberg, depending on your preferences), this unholy alliance has divided cake lovers.

The cake is made of a cheddar cheese and thyme oatmeal base, a savoury cheesecake filling comprised of pigs in blankets, fresh thyme and fresh sage, and is topped with a caramelised onion chutney, crispy pigs in blankets and fresh sprigs of thyme and rosemary.

Dubbing the creation as their "most controversial cake to date”, the porky pudding serves 10-12 people and retails at £36.

A spokesperson for Pleesecakes described the product as “a great alternative to the standard post-dinner cheeseboard”.

If you’re still not convinced, perhaps the enthusiasm of Pleesecakes’ Instagram followers might change your mind.

Echoing the thoughts of many, one person proclaimed that the cheesecake was “so wrong it’s right”.

Another commented: “Initial reaction: what the everliving f**k? Now, I want to eat the whole thing now and get a second helping.”

A third said: “I’ll buy three, please”.

Someone else replied: “GET IN MY BELLY. Something BANGING for the pigs in blanket lovers.”

“Omg when I first saw it I thought that is so wrong, but the more I looked at it, mmm I’m undecided, mmm yeah cut me a slice,” added another user.

In the UK, pigs in blankets tend to be chipolata sausages wrapped in bacon, but across the pond their version of the seasonal side dish is slight different.

Northern American pigs are wrapped in pastry, rather than bacon, and baked.

Such is their popularity that they even get their own annual observance: 24 April marks National Pigs in Blankets day in the US.
