Put your bowl of spaghetti bolognese down because finally someone has invented a confectionary mash-up that combines two of our favourite comfort foods - starchy carbs and creamy chocolate hazelnut spread.
That’s right, Nutella pasta is officially a thing.
Invented by Carosello, an Italian restaurant in Australia’s Monee Ponds, the dish is being served to celebrate World Pasta Day, which falls on October 25, and it expertly fuses dinner and dessert both at the same time.
So, what exactly is it?
No, they haven’t just boiled a bag of tagliatelle and smothered it in the good stuff. Instead, this dish uses chocolate pasta, which is made as normal but enhanced with cocoa powder for a strong chocolatey smell and subtle taste that can be enjoyed savoury or sweet.
In this case, Carosello has loaded the plate with Nutella that’s spiked with Frangelico – a traditional hazelnut liquor – before garnishing it with white chocolate, mint, almonds and raspberries.
Starting on Oct 24, the restaurant’s chocolate pasta will only be available for until Oct 29.
One of two establishments in Australia that serves the delicious dish, it can also be found at Tella Balls Dessert Bar, a Nutella-themed restaurant with two locations just outside of Sydney.
The Aussies aren’t the only ones getting on the Nutella action though. While you might not be able to get this exact dish in the UK just yet, there are plenty of other chocolate themed foods you can devour.
Chocolate pizzas for example have been around for some time in the form of folded over calzones, while takeaway giant Domino’s launched their own six inch version with the Lotta-Chocca Pizza.
For something more grown-up, you can even enjoy a Nutella Martini – made with vanilla infused vodka, crème de cacao, cream and chocolate spread - at Christopher’s in Covent Garden.
