Serving two courses at a modest £12.45, the eatery where diners can start with a session of shiatsu or body realignment was praised for its ambience and imaginative menu. In the fourth annual Vegetarian Society Awards the café beat six short-listed restaurants including The Gate in Hammersmith, west London, and Terre a Terre in Brighton, the south coast city named as winner in the new "destination category".
The judges said the food giant Nestlé won its "Imperfect World" award because the Smarties it makes contain cochineal dye, which is obtained by crushing insects.
