From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Remember the Hamburglar, that charming little moon-faced boy with a penchant for Big Macs? He's grown up into the kind of asshole who wears a tie around his neck without wearing a shirt.

The new fedora-wearing burger terroriser comes as part of McDonald's brand overhaul, with Ronald McDonald having recently been given a new gilet and cargo pants.

The Hamburglar's return was teased in an advert posted by McDonald's in which he loses his shit after hearing about the restaurant's new sirloin third-pound burgers.

So far some people have mused that the new Hamburglar looks like he doesn't own a TV, while others have suggested he is too good-looking to be a beef thief, christening him Mumford and Buns and saying they would willingly hand over their burgers to him.

In a statement made to Mashable, McDonald's said of the new Hamburglar:

"We felt it was time to debut a new look for the HambuThe rglar after he’s been out of the public eye all these years. He's had some time to grow up a bit and has been busy raising a family in the suburbs and his look has evolved over time."
