Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Food Standards Agency has stated that the Morrisons Eat Smart Honey & Mustard Dressing poses a risk to people who have either egg or mustard allergies.
Customers who have bought the product have been advised to contact allergy support organisations.
Rather than simply remove the dressing from the supermarket shelves, Morrisons has had to ask their customers to return the product due to the aforementioned health concerns.
“Morrisons is recalling Eat Smart COUNTED Honey & Mustard Dressing because it contains egg and mustard which is not mentioned on the label,” stated the FSA.
“This means the product poses a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg and/or an allergy to mustard.”
In cases such as this when there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will then send out an Allergy Alert.
People can subscribe to allergy alerts by email or text, so that any time a product is classified as a risk for people with allergies you’ll be immediately notified.
Although the honey and mustard dressing was recalled for failure to mention that it contained both egg and mustard, some people are slightly baffled by the announcement.
“Don’t you just hate it when you buy a jar of mustard and you find out that it contains mustard,” one Twitter user wrote.
This isn’t the first time in recent months that the FSA has issued allergy alerts after food products were incorrectly labelled.
In December last year, cakes sold by Ridiculously Rich by Alana were recalled for only listing some out of a number of allergens correctly on the labels.
Alana Spencer won the twelfth series of The Apprentice, receiving a £250,000 investment from her new business partner Lord Alan Sugar.
At the beginning of October last year, Costcutter was instructed to recall their Independent Sliced Chorizo because it wasn’t specified that the product contained milk.
