Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Transitioning towards a plant-based diet is better for the planet and your health according to researchers. Here are three cookbooks in the works that you might want to add to your wish list.

On September 27, Mary McCartney, renowned photographer and daughter of Sir Paul McCartney, announced she is working with Chatto & Windus to produce a beautifully photographed simple meat-free recipe-filled cookbook by 2012 that promises to appeal to meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. http://www.booktrade.info/index.php/showarticle/29415

Jamie Oliver, celebrity chef, announced via The Huffington Post on September 14 that his next cookbook is a compilation of vegetarian recipes in an effort to revolutionize healthy eating and cooking habits. Mario Batali, in an August Freep.com interview, responded, "Yes, you do - and that's a scoop" when asked "Do we see a vegetarian cookbook in your future?" Batali has touted that farmers are the new gastronomy rockstars and strongly supports "responsible eating": "I'm a vegetarian all day until dinner, and I try to eat no meat whatsoever on Monday and Tuesday."
