McDonald’s has relaunched its breakfast menu after more than three months.

From Wednesday 24 June, the fast food chain will be serving breakfast at 42 of its UK restaurants.

The menu will be limited initially, but staples such as hash browns, McMuffins, and pancakes will all be available.

If the initial rollout for breakfast goes smoothly, McDonald’s will extend the service to its other restaurants.

CEO Paul Pomroy said: “As with our main menu, we will have a limited menu at breakfast but we’ve kept the classics – hash browns, McMuffins and pancakes all return.”

Mr Pomroy added that due to new health and safety measures imposed to ensure the restaurants are Covid-secure, certain dishes will not be included on the breakfast menu.

“Unfortunately, whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines, we are unable to serve porridge, bagels and our Breakfast Wrap. This is because we have fewer people in the kitchen,” he explained.

He went on to explain that there are certain items that take more time to prepare in the kitchen and therefor may put workers at greater risk.

“When deciding the reopening menu, we took the decision to remove any items that might be challenging for our teams to make while maintaining social distancing in the kitchen – for example, wraps and Shakes.

“These are two menu items that often create additional traffic in certain parts of the kitchen and we need more time to ensure that we can bring them back to you, without impacting the safety measures we have put in place.”

As for which restaurants will be serving breakfast, they are all in the South East of England and Ireland and include branches in Ipswich, Ashford, Bushey, and Tooting.

McDonald’s has been gradually reopening its restaurants for delivery and takeaway since early June.

However, the chain has been quick to stress that it is operating with much smaller teams than usual, hence service may be slower.

“Please bear with us as we begin this test,” McDonald’s tweeted regarding the breakfast trial.

“The safety of you and our teams is our priority.”
