Your support makes all the difference.Lidl has recalled Sondey Orange Jaffa Cakes and Sondey Jaffa Minis being sold at the supermarket due to an "allergy health risk".
In a statement released by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on Wednesday 20 February, it was revealed that the chocolate snacks contain milk, despite there being no mention of the ingredient on the food's packaging.
This means that consumption of the products could prove harmful for "anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk contituents", the FSA explained.
It's been advised by the FSA and Lidl that any customers with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents who have purchased the Jaffa Cake snacks refrain from eating them, and take them to a Lidl store for a full refund.
In addition to withdrawing the products from sale, Lidl has also informed several allergy support organisations of the situation.
Recalled products include the 300g packet of Sondey Orange Jaffa Cakes and the 125g packet of Sondey Jaffa Minis.
Both have expiry dates ranging from 1 January 2019 until 1 November 2019.
Sondey, a food company that also produces products such as digestive biscuits and rice cakes, is trademarked by Lidl Stiftung and Co. KG, the German discount supermarket chain.
This isn't the first time a Sondey product has been called into question at Lidl for posing a health risk to customers.
On 4 January, the FSA released a statement revealing the supermarket chain was recalling Sondey Organic Biscuits due to "undeclared allergens".
The announcement stated that the assortment of biscuits contains peanuts, oats, sesame, milk and hazelnuts, none of which were mentioned on the packet's label as ingredients.
If a person is suffering from a food-related allergic reaction, they may experience common symptoms such as tingling or itching in the mouth, a rash, swelling of the throat, difficulty swallowing, shortness of breath and light headedness, the NHS states.
The NHS also advises that if you witness someone experiencing a severe allergic reaction, otherwise known as anaphylaxis, you should inject them with an adrenaline auto-injector, as long as you know how to use one, and call an ambulance for them on 999 immediately.
The notices released by Lidl with regards to the Sondey Jaffa Cakes and Sondey Jaffa Minis recall states that no other Sondey products at the supermarket are affected.
If any customers have any queries or concerns, they can call Lidl's customer services on 0370 444 1234.
