Greene King: Full list of pubs in London reopening for delivery and takeaway

Health care workers can also receive 50 per cent off food and drink

One of the UK’s largest pub companies has reopened a number of its London branches for takeaway and delivery.

From Friday 22 May, Greene King is opening the doors of 29 pubs from its Metropolitan Pub Company division in London, including The World’s End in Finsbury Park and the Victoria Inn in Peckham.

The London based pubs will operate a combination of food delivery, as well as a click and collect takeaway service so that customers missing their favourite gastro pub dishes can enjoy them from the comfort of their own homes.

All of the locations will offer delivery via Deliveroo, while 10 will also offer click and collect.

The pubs will providing a tailored menu, which will include some of the nation’s favourite dishes such as beer-battered fish and chips, beef burgers, and even a range of roasts available on Sundays.

The company has reassured customers that there will be strict guidelines to ensure health and safety for everyone, including staff and delivery riders and customers.

In addition to following government guidance on social distancing and provision of PPE, further hygiene and safety rules for those working in and entering the pubs for collection of orders are being implemented, including separate entrances for delivery drivers, a one-way system for customers to collect orders, online payment, social distancing floor guidance and hand sanitiser at the entrances of the pub.

Speaking about the introduction of takeaway and delivery services, Nick Mackenzie, CEO of Greene King, said: “We have selected pubs carefully for this initial roll out based on suitable layout of pubs as we ensure we not only adhere to all government guidance but further precautions we are choosing to implement too.

“It’s important for us that our team feel safe in the workplace so we have consulted them every step of the way, giving the option to return to work for those who work in these selected pubs if their personal circumstances allow.”

To support those working on the frontline, health care workers can receive 50 per cent off food and drink at the 10 pubs which are offering collection.

While the news has been welcomed by many customers on social media, people from other parts of the UK have been asking when they can expect pubs to start reopening in their area.

Greene King has not yet confirmed a date when additional locations can reopen, but has told eager customers to “stay tuned”.

Earlier this month, prime minister Boris Johnson shared a “sketch of a roadmap” for when businesses and public spaces in England can being to open as the country eases out of lockdown.

As part of the plan, reopening pubs will be part of stage three in the government’s three-stage plan, which will start from 4 July at the earliest.
