Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ridgeview Grosvenor Blanc de Blanc 2007
As it's English Wine Week, we have to start with this stunning celebration wine, made in traditional méthode champenoise style using Chardonnay grapes grown on the Sussex Downs and full of lovely toasty brioche and tropical-fruit flavours. Beating the champagne houses at their own game, last autumn it won the Decanter magazine award for the best sparkling wine in the world and is only one of a number of fabulous Ridgeview sparklers. £23.95, Berry Bros & Rudd; £24.40, slurp.co.uk;or visit ridgeview.co.uk for a full list of stockists of Ridgeview wines

Champteloup Muscadet Sèvre et Maine 2009
Distinguished by lovely lemony flavours, but with a distinct and not unpleasant tang of salty sea breezes, this splendidly crisp and refreshing Muscadet is a perfect match for almost any type of white fish – so long as the sauce is not too spicy – but really comes into its own with prawns or mussels. And it'd be perfect with some goat's cheese afterward. £5.99, Waitrose

Villa Pani Chianti Riserva 2007
If you're planning a barbecue or similar gathering this weekend, this is a great offer from your local Co-op, an excellent half-price deal which ends on Tuesday. A well-structured, medium-bodied Chianti, which has spent long enough in the bottle to develop some depth of flavour, with tastes of ripe red fruits and some nice leather and tobacco notes, which would go perfectly with grilled chicken or lamb. £4.99 (until 31 May; normally £9.99), Co-operative stores
