More than a mixer

Fentimans Dandelion & Burdock 275ml, 99p, Waitrose

This garnet fizz has an extraordinarily spicy nose of liquorice, angostura and almond, with a spicy palate to match and a refreshing, if a little sweet, almondy fizz. Perhaps best with a shot of vodka - next month.

Posh fizzy pop

Duchy Original Lemon Refresher, 750ml, around £1.79, Booths, most supermarkets

The ripe Sicilian lemon aromas and fizzy, lemon-zest freshness make this a lipsmackingly effervescent drink with tart finish that makes it an especially good substitute for wine. A proper, grown-up fizzy softie.

Develop a crush

Fresh Fruit in a Bottle Pear & Apple 500ml, £2.49, Marks & Spencer

Fresh and juicy, this drink smells more of fresh pears than apples with a nice thick, almost viscous texture to it. A delicious pear-flavoured mouthful with the apple in the background for some crisp added bite.
