Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Saturday: 2002 Neil Ellis Groenekloof Sauvignon Blanc, £7.99, Safeway

Announcing its refreshing aromatic presence, floral and herbaceous notes give way to a mouthwatering palate of rich, nettley, gooseberryish sauvignon blanc with a tongue-tingling zing. Open a bottle of this Cape jewel to go with smoked salmon - if you're a perfectionist on a cracker with a squeeze of lime.

Sunday: 2002 Kumala Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, £6.99, Tesco

This nubile and aromatic young red from the Cape is less oaky and more lusciously fruity than in previous vintages giving it immediate appeal, and a succulently juicy, red- berry fruit quality that's hard to resist. A red that goes equally well with barbecues and Sunday roasts.

Any day: Jacob's Creek Dry Riesling 2002 Australia, Reduced to £4.49, Waitrose (until 1 June)

My favourite in the Jacob's Creek range by some distance, this new screw-capped aromatic dry white is fragrantly lemon and lime-scented, with plenty of juicy, citrus-peel fruitiness to accompany fish or salads, or be drunk on its own, lightly chilled. The £1-off promotion for the next week makes it all the more worthwhile.
