Ever since launching in 1990, the retailer’s Colin the Caterpillar cake has been a staple at children’s (and adults’) birthday parties, delighting members of the British public with its chocolate sponge roll, chocolate buttercream, milk chocolate multicoloured beans and cartoonish design.
But the prized element of the cake, the part of the construction everyone always fights over, is undeniably the white chocolate face.
Fortunately, Marks & Spencer has created a product dedicated solely the caterpillar’s cheerful visage, selling bags of miniature Colin the Caterpillar faces.
Made from a combination of white and milk chocolate, the product has not yet launched widely across Marks & Spencer stores.
However, that hasn’t stopped customers from expressing their excitement over the snack.
Newsfooduk, an Instagram account which shares the latest food launches in the UK with its 154,000 followers, posted a photograph of someone holding the mini Colin faces in an Marks & Spencer store.
“Omg!!!!!! I’m going to get some tomorrow,” one person commented.
“The best bit of Colin is here!!!” another said.
Each pack of miniature Colin faces costs £2, the Daily Star reported.
In June, a baker shared the unique spin she had put on a recipe for a Colin the Caterpillar cake, creating a vegan alternative made with Biscoff spread and biscuits.
Named the Biscoff Charlie Caterpillar Cake, the recipe was devised by vegan baker Beth, who goes by Vecreation on Instagram and on her baking blog.
Beth created her recipe as part of a weekly Instagram challenge set by Vegan Food UK.
In addition to Biscoff spread and biscuits, the cake is also made from vegan white chocolate.
