Cadbury’s have released an LGBT+ inclusive advert picturing two men kissing over a Crème egg.

Their new ‘Golden Goobilee’ egg celebrates five decades of the fondant-filled chocolate egg and the advert – released on Monday – nods to all the different ways the British public eats their Crème egg, from licking out the centre, to baking the eggs into brownies or scooping out the goo.

The advert then cuts to two men holding hands as they spin around in a circle.

One holds a Crème egg in his mouth and the other leans in to bite the egg in half as the narrator declares: “Sharers? Yeah, we are down with that!”

LGBT+ representation in big brand adverts across the globe has steadily risen over the years.

Recently Doritos Mexico shared a moving advert showing a father embracing his gay son’s new relationship, while in August British retailer Argos found itself at the centre of a social media storm when it released an advert showing a same-sex black couple enjoying a family dinner.

They hit back at criticism by tweeting: “We’re proud to represent a diverse and inclusive Britain in our advertising. Argos is for everyone.”

Etsy, Colgate, Starbucks, Absolut, and Coke have also released ads that have showcased LGBT+ people, their relationships, and their happiness, while Kelloggs’ ‘My Perfect Bowl’ campaign featured a diverse LGBT+ cast and garnered more than 17 million views online.

Mark Runacus, chairman of PrideAM, said the adverts are a step in the right direction.

“We don’t deny that creating LGBTQ-inclusive ads can be a minefield, particularly if the people behind the work are straight, but it is so important to the progression of the queer rights movement that LGBTQ+ people are more visible in the media," he added.
