From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Packed with marshmallows, biscuit pieces and 100s and 1000s, the classic chocolate bar has been given a refresh that we think sounds magic.
Previously, the celebratory bar was only available in Australia, but has now been imported to the UK and is on sale in selected B&M stores.
Priced at £1.25, the treat is slightly more expensive than a standard chocolate bar, but the discount retailer has said the extra cost covers the expense of importing the bars as the flavour is not made in the UK.
First spotted on B&M shelves by popular foodie Instagrammer Kev’s Snack Reviews, the discovery has sparked excitement among chocolate lovers.
One user wrote: “Oooh, I’ve had these. Really nice”, while another tagged a friend and said: “Get the feck there now!!!!! Sod work!!! Lol.”
Sadly, the retailer doesn’t offer online shopping, so you’ll have to check out your local store for stock.
It’s far from the most experimental chocolate bar Dairy Milk has released, however.
Earlier this month, Kev of the titular Snack Reviews appraised the Cadbury Dairy Milk Perky Nana bar.
Originally from New Zealand, the chocolate bar contains chewy banana flavour marshmallow pieces.
Kev’s review got off to a shaky start, however, describing the banana pieces as looking like “bits of sweetcorn – I had to try and get that image out of my head as I ate it,” he said.
Concluding that the chocolate was a “fun bar”, he added that it was “a bit like foam bananas in chocolate, which sounds weird but it’s rather nice!”.
While some users were keen to try the unique chocolate creation, others were thrown by the name of the product.
“Totally read that as ‘Perky Nanna’,” one person commented, with another replying “SAME”.
