Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.High fashion and football don’t always go hand-in-hand, but it seems as though this year’s World Cup could be the exception.
To celebrate the 2018 championship, online luxury fashion retailer Yoox and football fashion magazine SEPP have partnered with a group of international designers to create a capsule collection of T-shirts and sweatshirts.
Fittingly named Soccer Couture, the range aims to make the World Cup a touch more stylish with each designer given the task of creating a unisex kit that embodies their respective nationalities.
From Germany to Russia and South Korea, the bespoke designs represent each nation’s values, love of football and the burgeoning relationship between fashion and sport.
Representing England, Dame Vivienne Westwood design reads “Mirror the World” and “PUNK” to signify her passion for sustainability and green living.
“Mirror the World is about saving Venice,” the British designer explains.
“The problem there is one of repair but also climate change.”
On behalf of the other nationalities, participating brands include Y/Project for Belgium, Isolda for Brazil, Esteban Cortazar for Colombia, Koche for France, 11 by Boris Bidjan Saberi for Germany, Kolor for Japan and Marques' Almeida for Portugal.
Meanwhile host country Russia has two designers including Alexander Terekhov and Walk of Shame for Russia, while Nio Far x Mwami design on behalf of Senegal, pushBUTTON for South Korea, Delopzo for Spain and Ottolinger for Switzerland.
Priced at £74 for T-shirts, and £111 for sweatshirts, all proceeds from the sale of the collection will benefit Stars for Children – a charity founded by the Russian footballer, Alexander Kerzhakov, which provides support to disadvantaged children while introducing them to the world of sport.
