The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) boasts a red carpet quite unlike any other A-list ceremony.

There’s something about the annual music industry celebration – which this year saw Taylor Swift and Lil Nas X among the big winners – that attracts era-defining fashion moments.

It’s the event where actor Rose McGowan famously donned a black sequin “naked” dress and where Lady Gaga wore her seminal meat gown, which was made from actual raw meats.

While there were no such avant garde contributions this time around, guests including Lizzo, FKA Twigs and Jonathan Van Ness ensured there was plenty of sartorial prowess to admire, with copious sequins and sparkles between them.

Elsewhere, we saw Swift make a colourful splash in a rainbow Versace blazer and Halsey putting a girlish spin on glam rock style in a sheer scarlet gown by Dundas.
