Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. If you thought Juicy Couture's velour tracksuits were already overpriced (a basic zip hoodie retails for $98 and matching drawstring pants retail for $88), think again. For its holiday collection, the West Coast label is rolling out a limited edition tracksuit with an 18K white gold, diamond-encrusted "J" zipper pull which will sell for $1000.
The one-karat diamond pull, designed by jeweler Martin Katz, replaces the shiny nickel "J" pull usually found on Juicy Couture tracksuits. And for those who would rather sport the pricey bling solo, it can also be worn on a necklace like how Jessica Szohr rocked it. The actress, who plays Vanessa Abrams on the television series Gossip Girl, was spotted wearing the diamond pull on a pendant at Women Wear Daily's 100th anniversary party in New York at Cipriani on 42nd Street last week.
Juicy Couture has been making headlines lately, but not only for its expensive diamond-encrusted jumpsuit. New York designer Erin Fetherston's highly-anticipated first capsule collection for the California apparel and accessories line recently launched in stores and online. Fetherston, who started her eponymous label in 2004, was named guest designer and creative consultant for Juicy Couture in April 2010 to replace Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy, the co-founders and co-designers of Juicy Couture, who left the company in January.
Yet though $1000 may seem a bit far-fetched for a velour tracksuit, albeit with a diamond-encrusted zipper pull, the price pales in comparison to Stuart Weitzman's "Diamond Dream" stilettos worth a jaw-dropping $500,000. The luxury footwear designer teamed up with Kwiat jewelers to fabricate shoes adorned with 1,420 individual white diamonds weighing a total of 30 karats. American actress and singer Anika Noni, for whom the shoes were designed, wore the sparkly stilettos on the red carpet for the 2007 Oscars.
Juicy Couture flagships and JuicyCouture.com will carry just 100 of the limited-edition pieces from November 15.
