The actor appeared on the red carpet on Sunday night wearing a two-piece Stella McCartney tracksuit with a bomber jacket.
Although the 24-year-old dressed up the navy outfit with black leather boots and an ornamental brooch, red carpet watchers couldn't resist drawing comparisons.
One said: “This is so insulting. I know Timothée Chalamet is not nominated but it is wrong to make him do valet parking.”
Another said: “Timothée Chalamet is doing double duty tonight, presenting and security. We love a multi-talented man.”
“He looks like a mechanic,” said another.
While on the red carpet Chalamet photobombed Margot Robbie, who was having her picture taken nearby.
Chalamet has previously spoken about about the “sex harness” he wore to the Golden Globes admitting he thought it was a “bib”.
He was dressed by Louis Vuitton for he event pairing tailored trousers with an open-back embellished chest strap.
In December 2019 Chalamet was named best dressed male celebrity in the world.
The judges said: "Plenty of actors decide to take risks on the red carpet, and for that we applaud them, but so often it backfires.
"Not so with Timothée Chalamet, who wears the trickiest of designer ensembles but manages to look as cool and comfortable as if he were wearing regular black tie."
