Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

According to findings by the Chicago-based Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Center, which were broadcast on US-based WPBF radio on November 19, the most sexually enticing scents include pumpkin pie, doughnuts, black licorice, buttered popcorn and cola.
Test subjects were attached to a plethysmograph, a machine that measures penile blood flow, and exposed to 30 odors. The research team found that all of the odors stimulated men at some level, but that the combined scent of pumpkin pie and lavender increased average blood flow by 40 percent. An infusion of doughnuts and black licorice increased arousal by 31.5 percent.
Dr. Alan Hirsch, the center's director, said that the scent of vanilla triggered sexual desire among older men. Hirsch and his team explained that the odors of favorite foods could remind men of their sexual partners, or could "evoke nostalgic recall."
