Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Last night saw young Hollywood come out in droves for the 2018 Teen Choice Awards which took place at the Forum in Los Angeles, California.
The event, which was co-hosted by Youtube star Lele Pons and comedian Nick Cannon, saw stars come together to celebrate the television shows, films and celebrities that speak to teenagers all over the globe.
Unlike most award shows, the Teen Choice Awards gives young people a voice by allowing them to choose who is nominated and who wins on the night, but the upbeat spirit of the evening doesn’t stop there.
The fun vibe inspires its guests to ditch tradition and get creative with their looks each year and 2018 was no different with stars donning everything from sequin ballgowns to camouflage and even double denim.
Among the best dressed were Chloe Moretz who sported a Louis Vuitton blazer and fringed skirt, Anna Kendrick in a show-stopping pink and silver mini dress, and Storm Reid who adopted a rock ‘n’ roll approach with a frilly leopard print dress and purple toned cowboy boots.
Summer’s biggest night for young Hollywood, the two-hour event was filled with a number of accolades, performances from the likes of Meghan Tranor and Khalid, and of course plenty of award winners.
Among those who scooped the award for best actress were Scarlett Johansson, Letitia Wright, Carrie Fisher, Zendaya and Anna Kendrick, while Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Gonzalez and Zac Efron all took home awards for best actor.
In the television category, teen drama series Riverdale won an impressive nine awards including the Choice Hiss Fit, Drama TV Actor, Drama TV Actress and Drama TV show.
