From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 20-year-old musician posted two photographs from the campaign on Instagram, where he has 40 million followers, on Saturday with a teasing caption that suggested more snaps would be unveiled later this week.
In the first photo, Mendes poses in a pair of white Calvin Klein briefs while reclining on a kitchen counter with sunlight shining through the window.
In the second, he dons a black pair and poses in an orange armchair with an electric guitar and keyboard behind him, presumably in reference his musical talents.
The “In My Blood” singer’s post has been liked more than six million times in less than 12 hours and garnered thousands of gushing comments from his extensive fan base.
It's not the first time Mendes has worked as a fashion model.
Though he's better known for his music, he has been signed to the prestigious modelling agency Wilhelmina Models since 2016.
Mendes was revealed as an ambassador for Emporio Armani in 2018, and was appointed the face of the label's entire watch collection for that year.
He also walked the runway for the Italian fashion house's spring/summer 2018 menswear show in Milan.
