Celebrities including supermodel Marcus Schenkenberg and the actors Mike Myers and Alan Cumming will model new kilt designs at a New York showcase organized by über-Scot, Sean Connery.
The Hollywood actor's Friends of Scotland organization has again called on designers to reinterpret the traditional Scottish plaid skirt for Dressed to Kill, an event that this year benefits several charities supporting war veterans including the Wounded Warrior Project.
Under the motto of "Mad for Scotland," the show will "celebrate mad style, eccentric style, individuality and the mix and match of colors and styles," explained the organizers. "Our designers have embraced the Spirit of 'Anything Goes.' The catwalk will come alive as a visual feast of eccentric elegance, surreal ensembles, stunning fabrics and Mad Hatters," they added with a nod to Alice in Wonderland.
There will also be a pop-up shop of the designs, running March 22 to April 13, located at the M2 Lounge (13 East 69th Street). However, since the fashion show doesn't happen until April 5, the designs will only be available for sale from April 6. Dress code for shoppers? "Something Scottish, and hats encouraged for the ladies."
The show, considered as the main high-profile event in Scottish fashion outside Scotland, willl take place April 5 from 7.30pm. Tickets can be purchased here: http://www.dressedtokilt.com/2010-tickets-sale.php.
