Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Denim brand G-Star has launched an online competition for budding journalists to report live from the upcoming New York Fashion Week, February 11-18.

Using their favorite social media site, users can connect via Flickr, YouTube, Facebook or Twitter in order to sign up for the contest.

Depending on what platform they choose, applicants are asked to submit their best denim look via Facebook, their best Flickr picture or YouTube video, or enter their Twitter blog profile for a chance to be flown to New York, attend the fashion shows and after parties and get their experiences published in real time.

Submissions deadline is February 1, with the winners of each category to be announced three days later. All videos, tweets, and pictures will be streamed live on g-star.com.

Women's prêt-à-porter season kicks off with New York fashion week on February 11, followed by the less commercial but more cutting-edge London fashion week starting February 19. Milan's well-established, luxury-focused event opens February 24, and the industry's epicenter Paris will be wrapping things up from March 3.
