The 23-year old star, known for her long blonde locks, debuted her new pixie crop on her official Facebook page ahead of a promotional event for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on Wednesday.
The reaction from her fans was immediate; drawing more than 49,000 likes and 1,600 comments in less than 24 hours ranging from “OMG I love it”, to complete disbelief and total disregard for the haircut.
“What the heck? You had such beautiful hair, why would you do that?,” asked one of her fans.
So why did she cut it? Lawrence told fans her hair had become damaged after dyeing it dark brown to play arrow-wielding heroine Katniss Everdeen in the film adaption of Suzanne Collin’s best-selling adventure novels.
"I just did it to make Francis [Lawrence, director of the film] mad," she said during the Catching Fire Google Hangout Q&A. "I did it just to annoy him. He totally thought it was me giving him the finger.
“But it's not. It's just fried from being dyed so much."
Lawrence joins a wave of Hollywood stars trading long hair for a pixie crop from Miley Cyrus to Jennifer Hudson. Even the exuberant Pamela Anderson has opted for a Mia Farrow-inspired haircut.
And let's not forget about Beyonce’s ultra short blonde hairdo. It didn’t last long, but it certainly made an impression.
