From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Italian shoe designer has announced an upcoming collaboration with the superstar.
In an interview with Forbes, Zanotti revealed details of the upcoming project: "I’m doing a shoe with Beyoncé right now.
"I’m working on finalising the shoe with her stylist right now. And Beyonce will then say what she likes and what she doesn’t like. It will be one shoe only," Zanotti explained.
"Beyonce has very clear ideas – she knows exactly what she wants. The thing which she then also has over other celebrities, is that she has an amazing voice. She’s incredibly talented and she’s an amazing dancer – she’s complete. Few are like Beyonce."
This won't be the first partnership between the pair, Zanotti previously worked with the singer on the footwear for the Mrs Carter Show World Tour back in 2013.
And the brand is no stranger to collaborations either, Kanye West has teamed up with the designer on a number of occasions - first to create footwear for his debut womenswear show, then on Cruel Summer shoes named after his album -and most recently the Mrs West shoes inspired by his wife.
You won't have to wait too long for a pair either, the shoes which are described as "ultra thick platform stilettos" will be available in the next two weeks.
And that's not all - there's another fashion project in the works from Beyonce, with a new athletic streetwear line - a joint venture with Topshop expected later in the year.
