Bundchen announced her decision on Instagram yesterday, sharing a picture of herself at the beginning of her career with the statement:
"I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business.
Her last ever runway appearance took place last night in Sao Paulo, Brazil as part of fashion week, where she too her bow at the summer 2016 show by Colcci.
In an interview with Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper she explained her decision to quit the catwalk:
"Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop. I respect my body, it's a privilege to be able to stop"
Bundchen is one of the highest-paid models in world, consistently topping Forbes' top-earning models list and is said to have earned $47 (approx £32 million) in the last year alone.
