Fashion Update: Soho's village shop
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A DRY-CLEANING shop seems like a logical enough place in which to open a clothes store, and that's just what an enterprising threesome has done. Max Carey, Brad Tuck and Page Brooks opened SHOP last week in the tiny space in front of Frith's Valet Service in Frith Street, Soho. 'We want it to be rough and ready, with a New York East Village feel,' says Tuck.
As well as offering to 'recycle' your old designer clothing (ie sell it or return it to you), SHOP stocks small exclusive designer collections. There are tiny pastel- coloured mohair vests, even tinier spencers with lacey trim ( pounds 26), red A-line satin skirts (very Fiorucci) and bleach-dipped satin sarongs by Jennifer Jones. Other highlights include a range of American workwear, Judy Blame's collection of club-inspired street-wear, and Patrick Cox shoes.
SHOP is owned by Bar Italia, the 24-hour coffee shop two doors down the street, so you can almost shop from your table. Prices start at around pounds 25, and do not go much higher than pounds 100. And the good news is that the shop keeps East Village opening hours, from 10am to around 10pm.
