Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The absolute look to emerge from the round of catwalk shows last October was this one. Elegant, poised, slightly sassy, but more moneypenny than vamp, this two-piece summed up the mood.
Except this isn't the actual garment that created the absolute look. It is a copy - and not a bad one at that. At least two members of the fashion press were seen wearing this suit during London Fashion Week back in March. But it isn't by John Galliano; it is by Miss Selfridge.
This "mini" Prince of Wales check suit has a neat short jacket with beltloops suitable only for this season's obligatory skinny belt, and a calf-length hobble skirt. The skirt has a split at the back so it will be less hobble than it appears.
The jacket, thankfully, will go with virtually anything - capri pants, short skirts, stretch jeans and hot pants. The best thing about the suit, however, is its price - £49.99 for the jacket and a mere £19.99 for the skirt.
The suit is available from Miss Selfridge, 221-223 Oxford Street, London, W1, Unit 93 Arndale Centre, Manchester M4, and selected branches nationwide. For further information, call 0181 910-1100.
