Designers bottle their Six Scents
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Six of the most conceptual designers of the moment have teamed up with leading perfumers to create the second edition of the Six Scents range, launched October 14.
This second collection sets out to explore how the designers -- Phillip Lim, Henry Holland, Damir Doma, Henrik Vibskov, Richard Nicoll, and Toga -- perceive nature, aided by professional noses from Givaudan.
As part of the collaboration, a collection of nature-themed films, art pieces, stories and photographs has also been made available to the public.
"Exploring the idea of nature as muse, we created Series Two as a multimedia and multi-sensory collection to spread environmental awareness and preservation through experiences of nature as a symbol and source of all creativity," Aramique Krauthamer, the so-called parfums story director of Six Scents, explained in a press release.
Each designer was asked to provide inspiration for the scents, and the respective perfumers took it from there, developing a story with the artists and translating it into fragrance.
Phillip Lim and Natalie Gracia-Cetto created Collage, with notes of patchouli, cedarwood, black and white pepper, which -- as Lim's clothes -- is "easy to wear to go to work and stylish enough for a night out."
Damir Doma and Yann Vasnier named their scent Ende/Anfang ('Beginning/End'), an all-natural scent but featuring contrasting elements such as vetiver oil, cardamom, coriander, sandalwood, and myrrh.
Henrik Vibskov and Louise Turner wanted to evoke "the relaxing sensation experienced in a sauna," contrasting dry woods and iced water in Solar Donkey Power, a mix of bergamot, geranium, moss, and pine.
Henry Holland and Stephen Nilsen, who simply called their scent Smell, used the "very vivid" picture of an "oversized, purple sofa where people would gather," translating into lilac, mimosa, green grass, jasmine, and musk.
Richard Nicoll and Rodrigo Flores-Roux's Nicoll 17 smells like a "summer salad," with ingredients such as fennel, basil, iris, orange, magnolia.
And finally, Toga and Alexandra Kosinski collaborated for Whiskey Caramélisé, a "sweet yet dynamic" scent that smells of mandarin, nutmeg, apple, sandalwood, musk, and patchouli.
Limited to 2,000 bottles per scent (each one is numbered and comes with custom packaging), the collection's sales will benefit the Pro Natura foundation. The perfumes are available at international retailers including Henri Bendel in New York, Liberty in London, Colette in Paris, 10 Corso Como in Milan, and Restir in Tokyo, priced at $95 each.
