From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The latest luxury label causing shoppers to scratch their heads is Moschino, which has been mocked on social media for selling a clutch bag shaped like a baguette for £758.
The bakery-inspired bag is made from leather with a three-dimensional baguette design embossed onto it. It also features a gold-plated Moschino logo, a brown lined interior and a magnetic seal.
On designer retail site Farfetch, the product description reads: “Stroll down the Seine (or the supermarket) with this Baguette clutch while you pick out the best wine choice for dinner. And maybe some real bread.”
On Twitter, hundreds of people have been mocking the design and its price tag.
“£758 to look like you’re holding a Subway,” wrote one person.
Another user shared a photo of a Crusty White Baguette from Sainsburys, which costs 95p, writing: “Biggest dupe going, save yourself £757.15.”
A third person commented: “Needs some ham and cheese on that.” Another wrote: “So pigeons can attack me, no thanks.”
Moschino has become well-known for its quirky designs, especially when it comes to bags.
The Italian luxury fashion house famously also sells handbags that resemble everything from croissants and cigarette lighters to a slice of birthday cake and a pizza box.
It isn’t the only brand that has been mocked by shoppers. Earlier this year, Gucci came under fire for selling a pair of “distressed” black tights for £145.
The luxury Italian retailer described the tights on its website as “stretch mesh tights in black. High-rise. Distressing throughout. Woven logo at elasticised waistband".
However, shoppers argued that the tights looked just like a laddered pair.
Popular Instagram account Diet Prada posted about the tights, writing: “To whoever paid $190 for these @gucci pre-ripped tights... r u ok?” with the hashtag “ripped in italy”.
