From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In celebration of the gala’s theme - "Camp: Notes on Fashion” – there has already been an array of creative ensembles from the likes of Serena Williams, Harry Styles and Celine Dion to name but a few of fashion’s elite attending the event.
As one of the first attendees to walk the carpet at the star-studded event, actor Laverne Cox stunned onlookers in a black ruffled Christian Siriano gown “inspired by fantasy”, with pale turquoise hair.
Meanwhile, both Lady Gaga and Billy Porter entertained photographers and sartorial fans alike by arriving with a slew of male assistants to help unveil their outfits.
From Gaga’s black tie-clad entourage to Porter’s topless posse of shirtless men in gold trousers, the night has unsurprisingly already turned into a Twitter user's meme dream.
Gaga’s team of helpers at tonight’s event included fashion designer Brandon Maxwell, makeup artist Sarah Tanno, and her personal photographer.
Gaga arrived at the event by wearing a pink cape dress, designed by Maxwell, which featured a giant bow and 25-foot train as the team of dancers helped her manoeuvre towards the museum's iconic steps, before unveiling not one but three additional outfits underneath.
