From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The British design house has released a 23-piece capsule collection of lily-white replicas of the original gown worn by Meghan Markle; the collection also features an onyx-black version.
Speaking to British Vogue, McCartney explained she knew the dress would be highly sought-after by fans and her decision to design replicas was spurred by a desire to make the Duchess' style accessible to loyal followers of the brand.
Named the “Made in Love” gowns, each is made from a sustainable viscose material in line with the brand’s environmentally-friendly ethos.
Priced at £3,500, the dresses are only available for purchase via private appointment and prospective clients must email 23oldbond.store@stellamccartney.com to request a preview.
The gowns will be sold for one week only at the label’s new Bond Street Store from June 13.
Though the designer admits she “feels weird” talking about the Duchess’ gown in detail, she described it as a “real privilege” and a “compliment” to be chosen to design her gown for the reception at Frogmore Hall.
“It was her second wedding dress, and it was her moment,” she told Vogue.co.uk.
“I felt that the dress represented her, it was a little whiff of her spirit. I love that."
The designer opened her new Old Bond Street store earlier this week at a glamorous launch party with Kylie Minogue and Kate Moss in attendance.
The shop had been touted as the most sustainable store in London, enlisting the help of clean air experts Airlabs to ensure the air circulating the store is as pure as possible.
