From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Duchess of Sussex has given her Instagram followers a sneak peek of her new clothing line.
Last month, Meghan announced she was launching a capsule collection to benefit Smart Works, the women’s charity for which she is a royal patron.
The collection, created in collaboration with Marks and Spencer, Jigsaw, John Lewis & Partners and designer Misha Nonoo, will launch later this year and be comprised of stylish workwear garments.
On Wednesday, the duchess shared behind-the-scenes footage on the @sussexroyal Instagtram account, which she shares with her husband the Duke of Sussex, of a photo shoot of the new collection.
In the clips, Meghan wears a pair of dark blue skinny jeans, an oversized blue and white striped shirt, and nude-coloured heels.
The duchess also greets several of the women involved in the shoot, chats with the photographer, and claps her hands while viewing the photos taken on the day.
In the videos, which are accompanied by Bill Withers' hit single "Lovely Day", one model poses in a black suit jacket and trousers in front of the duchess, while another captures the royal styling a woman dressed in a midi-sleeved navy blue dress.
“An initiative supporting the Smart Works collective which will equip women entering the work force with the key work wear essentials they need,” a caption on the posts reads. “Coming soon…”
Smart Works offers styling and coaching services for unemployed women with job interviews.
In an article for British Vogue’s September Issue, which she guest edited, Meghan explained that many of the brands she is working with for the collection have agreed to use a one-for-one model, meaning that for every item purchased from the collection by a customer, one is donated to charity.
“Not only does this allow us to be part of each other’s story, it reminds us we are in it together,” the 38-year-old added.
Meghan became the royal patron for Smart Works in January and visited the organisation’s headquarters later that month to help style some of the charity’s clients.
“It was such a beautiful experience,” one client named Sarah said of the visit. “I love colour and they found clothes that really represented me. It made me feel like myself again."
