From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

As any pregnant woman will tell you, the arrival of a newborn can be an expensive business – think nappies, a cot, breast pump and muslin squares for starters – so, replacing your entire wardrobe with a mass of maternity wear can often fall by the wayside.
Luckily though, one of the UK’s fastest growing supermarkets is launching it’s very own range of affordable wardrobe basics for mums-to-be.
With prices starting from just £4.99, the Esmara Pure range offers fantastic value for money with hero pieces like an elegant striped midi dress made from organic cotton for just £7.99 that can be paired with the brand’s extra high-waisted leggings for extra comfort.
There’s also a range of maternity underwear on offer including a three pack of hipster briefs and a non-wired nursing bra with handy nursing clips in sizes 36C-40C, both priced at £4.99.
“Featuring mostly nude, natural and autumnal colours, our first maternity range is guaranteed to be flattering on every pregnant, or nursing, shape,” said Josie Stone, head of non-food at Lidl UK.
“Whether she is a discerning fashion lover or a comfort seeker, every mum-to-be will be delighted and will be wearing these pieces time and time again.”
The announcement comes following the successful relaunch of Lidl’s pure organic cotton child and baby collection, Lupilu to which it adds a new range of sleep suits, joggers, tights and cardigans.
It is available from newborn all the way up to 24 months, with prices starting from £2.99.
The all-new maternity collection will arrive in stores from 7th September but if you want to get your hands on it you’re going to have to be quick as it’s only available while stocks last.
