Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. If you want to know what’s trending in the fashion world, look no further than your Instagram feed, where hashtags, geotags and every other kind of tag invite users to examine the preferences of those in the ‘gramming sphere.
Instagram is the best place to parade your sartorial prowess, conducted via perfectly filtered squares, so it’s no surprise that Instagram has become a go-to tool for market analysts, quite literally revealing what is hot and what is not.
As for the former category, when it comes to trainers, there’s a clear winner.
According to data collected by parcel forwarding company Forward2me, the most popular trainers on Instagram right now are the Adidas NMDs, having been tagged more than 5.7 million times on the photo-sharing platform.
This was followed by another offering from the German sportswear brand, the Adidas Yeezy 350 (4.1 million tags), which are part of the label’s collaboration with Kanye West.
Vans' Old Skool trainers came in third place with 3.6 million tags while Adidas Superstars followed in fourth with 3.4 million.
In fifth place was the classic Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoes, a perennial favourite amongst the fashion set, followed by further cult offerings from Nike, Adidas and Vans, such as the Nike Air Max and Air Force 1s and Vans’ Era shoes.
For those looking to cash in on the trendiest trainers in all the land, Adidas’ NMD_R1 shoes will set you back £109.95 and are available in a variety of colours, such as pastel pink and gunmetal grey.
It’s not the first time a company has collated data from Instagram to identify key fashion trends.
In November 2017, Lyst compiled its annual “Year in Fashion” report, highlighting some of the cult products that dominated Instagram that year.
Ranking No. 1 was Gucci’s iconic logo T-shirt, as sported on the ‘gram by Emily Ratajkowski.
This was followed by yet another popular Gucci product, the logo belt, which regularly adds a touch of glam to celebrity ensembles.
Another Insta-hit was the Lolita cat-eye sunglasses by Le Specs x Adam Selman, as seen on the likes of Gigi and Bella Hadid.
