This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

Holographic lips are taking over Instagram as beauty buffs, bloggers and YouTubers alike have become obsessed with the idea of an oil spill pout.

We’ve had succulent nails, geode lips and even rainbow hair but this latest beauty fixation far out shines them all.

In case you missed the fanfare, holographic nails have been a pretty big deal this year but never did we think the trend would extend as far as a unicorn pucker.

It’s all thanks to beauty brand Sigma who has just launched a collection of magical lip glosses that promise to transform your lips with one shimmering swipe.

Aptly titled Lip Switch, the collection includes five mesmerising shades which seemingly change colours as you move them - Double Whammy (green and lavender duo-chrome), Flip-Flop (fiery orange), Other Worldly (frosty green), Pink Lotus (bold, prismatic pink) and Transcend ( cool, purple opal).

The glosses can be worn alone or layered over a mix of existing shades to really amp up the allure.

It’s a trend that would normally require a profuse amount of makeup wizadry but these formulas do all the hard work for you.

You can buy the individual glosses now for £11, the full set for £27 or, if you can wait it out, add them to the very top of your Christmas list.
