From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tony award-winning actor Leslie Odom Jr, star of the smash hit Broadway musical Hamilton, and Chinese pop singer Jane Zhang will also perform, reports People.
“We are incredibly thrilled to have them with us,” said Ed Razek, executive producer of the annual show and chief creative officer at the US lingerie label.
According to Razek, Styles signed on to perform “months ago.”
The former One Direction frontman will take to the catwalk alongside some of the world’s most famous models, including Karlie Kloss, Alessandra Ambrosio and Bella Hadid.
His rumoured girlfriend Camille Rowe is also thought to be returning to the Victoria’s Secret runway this year.
The 27-year-old French model made her VS debut in 2016, walking in the Pink section of the show.
Fans are speculating that Styles and Rowe will make their first official appearance together on Monday.
The news of musical guests follows reports that model Gigi Hadid “pulled out” of walking in the show at the last minute due to visa issues.
Katy Perry was also rumoured to take to the stage in Shanghai as a performer, but has been indefinitely “banned” from travelling to China, reports Page Six.
However, according to Razek, everything has been going according to plan.
“The news reports I’ve been reading from the US here in Shanghai regarding this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show are not an accurate reflection of what I’m seeing and experiencing on site,” he told People.
Razek added that the Chinese government have granted more than 700 visas for him and his team of models and producers.
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will be broadcast in the US on November 28 at 10pm EST.
UK viewers will be able to stream the show using the app HayU from November 29.
