From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The singer, who was made the face of Gucci Tailoring in June 2018, has become known for his unabashedly bold style of dressing, frequently donning bright colours and eye-catching patterns.
In the new campaign for Gucci's pre-Autumn 2019 men's tailoring collection, Styles wears a variety of striking suits in order to showcase Italian fashion house's "vision for a new formal wardrobe".
The campaign was photographed by American film director Harmony Korine.
Korine also shot Gucci's pre-Autumn 2019 collection, which was unveiled in December last year.
In one of the pictures of Styles, the musician stands behind a desk with a phone to his ear, wearing a red bandana on his head, a burgundy jacket with a fuchsia lapel, a striped shirt and blush pink trousers.
Two ancient Roman-esque busts are included in the composition, in addition to a piglet standing on the desk and a swan behind Styles' head.
In another picture taken by Korine for the campaign, Styles wears the same bandana with a royal blue, velvet suit, a swan perched on his right hand.
Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele aspired to use the campaign to provide a "new take on formalwear, challenging today's norms in men's suiting".
"Accompanied as in the past by a gang of animals – this time piglets and swans – Styles plays an eccentric yet nonchalant character, surrounded by his pets in a classical environment, reflecting the House's vision for a new formal wardrobe."
Earlier this month, Styles attended the annual Met Gala wearing a bespoke, gothic, "Camp"-inspired ensemble designed by Gucci.
His look included a sheer frilled black blouse, black trousers, black heeled boots and a single pearl earring.
Styles, who was a co-chair at the event alongside Michele, Lady Gaga and Serena Williams, pierced his ear especially for the gala.
