Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

We love: Give jeans a chance

Like free stuff and the warm glow of doing something good? Volcom will be collecting jeans and denim jackets to pass on to the Whitechapel Homeless Mission. In return you get a free cap, DVD or CD.

7 Earlham Street, WC2 020-7836 3353

We're not sure about: Violent lips

It's not the concept of a temporary lip tattoo that The Audit is aghast at, so much as the choice of designs. Purple cheetah print or the Union Jack seem rather niche when plain old pillarbox red would surely see the creators laughing all the way to the bank.

We're buying: A dashing pair

These rather smart shoes are a case of east London meets well, east London, as Shoreditch-based shoe company Hudson collaborates with Stoke Newington’s Dashing Tweeds on this mini-collection of handsome chukka boots and brogues in leather and tweed.

From £160. hudsonshoes.com

We can’t wait for: Polish one off

Entrepreneurial undergraduates from the Central Saint Martins jewellery course will be selling their wares at a three-day pop-up shop, just in time for Christmas. Proceeds from the sale will go towards the students’ degree shows next June.

From November 30, 2 Goswell Road Coffee Shop, 154 Goswell Road, EC1

We’re saving the date: Having a ball

With the breathless anticipation of a debutante, the first exhibition in the V&A’s newly renovated fashion galleries has just been announced. Ball- gowns: British Glamour Since 1950 will celebrate 60 years of gowns as exemplified by Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Erdem.

From 19 May 2012, £10, ww.vam.ac.uk
