From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

While enjoying the musical aspect of the performances is the point, the outfits also lend to the enjoyment and appeal of the competition.
This year, the competition was especially fierce among the 26 remaining countries who battled it out in the finals - and they brought the fashion to match.
These are the nine best looks of Eurovision 2018.
Estonia - Elina Nechayeva
Nechayeva stunned in a special projection dress that took up most of the stage as she sang La Forza.
The dress used video projection features to transform colours and designs during Nechayeva’s performance and almost required Estonian government funding over costs.
Israel - Netta
With pink hair and a matching pink, red, and black kimono-inspired dress, Eurovision 2018's winner Netta stood out with her performance of TOY - and so did her outfit.
Cyprus - Eleni Foureira
Foureira advanced to the finals after performing the song Fuego in an outfit of bedazzling flames.
Moldova - DoReDoS
The group, made up of Marina Djundiet, Eugeniu Andrianov, and Sergiu Mîța, entertained as they performed My Lucky Day alongside identical backup dancers in pin-up inspired outfits.
Denmark - Rasmussen
Rasmussen stood out as he performed Higher Ground in a black coat and slicked-back hair.
With matching backup singers, the contestant showed off his gothic side as he sang his way into the finals.
The Netherlands - Waylon
The country music singer brought a little flair to his performance of Outlaw In ‘Em with a leopard-print jacket and leather pants.
Slovenia - Lea Sirk
With sequin bodysuits and a pretend technical issue, the high-energy performance of Hvala, ne kept the audience entertained - and advanced Slovenia to the finals.
Finland - Saara Aalto
With thigh-high black sparkling boots, a matching tunic, and a mohawk, Aalto stood out as she sang Monsters during her performance at the semi-finals.
Iceland - Ari Ólafsson
The performer kept things simple but classy in a white suit trimmed with red.
But no one took the spotlight away from Israel's Netta, who won this year's competition in her Asian-inspired theme.
