From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The British actor found fame earlier this year upon the release of BBC’s Normal People, a televised adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name.
Earlier this week, the 22-year-old was awarded the IMDb “Breakout Starmeter Award” for her portrayal of Marianne Sheridan on the hit drama, saying on Instagram that she felt “so proud” to receive “this amazing honour”.
In addition to her flair for acting, Jones has demonstrated a keen interest in fashion, bagging herself a spot as the star of Jimmy Choo’s “In My Choos” campaign, which the luxury brand says is a “content series that celebrates women who dare to stand out”.
Edgar-Jones’ campaign shoot took place in at the Chiltern Firehouse hotel in London, the city where she was born.
In the promotional video, the actor is filmed exiting a car while wearing a pair of ornate, embellished, black heels, enjoying a hot beverage at a restaurant and reading beside a window sill, dressed casually in a white shirt and matching trainers.
Edgar-Jones explained that she discovered an interest in fashion at a young age.
“It was when my cousin Jacqueline, who was studying shoe design, moved in when I was around seven and she was 22,” she said.
“She was the coolest person and I would try on all her shoes. I was devastated because my feet were always too small for them, and then she moved out. When she moved back in my feet were too big.”
Speaking to British Vogue about the campaign, Edgar-Jones stated her belief that “exploring what clothes and shoes can do for you is important in shaping how you look and feel throughout the day”.
The rising star compared exploring fashion to her work as an actor, saying: “It’s similar to the way I access characters for work.”
Much like her character on Normal People, Edgar-Jones has no desire to follow the crowd, instead preferring to dress individually, she told the magazine.
“I love trying on stuff I would never usually wear and developing a new sense of style,” she said.
“I don’t want to dress like everyone else.”
Sandra Choi, creative director of Jimmy Choo, described Edgar-Jones as a “modern heroine in the making”, someone who “represents the archetypal Jimmy Choo muse for a new era”.
“Her talent combined with her humility lend her an unique allure and confidence,” Choi said.
Edgar-Jones described her experience working on her first major fashion campaign as “new and exciting”, stating: “I loved finding a character through the shoes and accessories, it reinforced to me how transformative accessories, especially shoes, can be when playing a role.”
