From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The 2016 Critics' Choice awards took place last night in Santa Monica, whilst not quite enjoying the same status as some of the bigger events on the awards season calendar, it still provides another major opportunity for nominees to be out and about - dressed in their finest of course.
Many of this season's leading actresses made an appearance on the red carpet including Saoirse Ronan, Rachel McAdams and Alicia Vikander who all received Oscar nominations last week.
In style terms it was a good night for Saint Laurent, who fresh off the back of the announcement that its autumn/winter show will be staged in LA to coincide with the Grammys, dressed both Jennifer Aniston and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in floor-sweeping gowns.
Alicia Vikander continued to cement her status as one of the best dressed of the season opting to wear a beaded gown by Mary Katrantzou.
Another of the better looks was worn by Kirsten Dunst whose tiered beaded Chanel dress gave a vintage twist on red carpet dressing.
Finally Amy Schumer wore won of her best red carpet looks to date - a sleek white gown by Calvin Klein.
