Comme des Garçons has a new Standard
(Relaxnews) -
Together with Finnish interior design label Artek, fashion-forward Japanese brand Comme des Garçons has announced the launch of unisex fragrance Standard, out October 15.
The name of the fragrance refers to Artek designer Alvar Aalto's standards, known to be puristic and 'hype-free.'
"To be trendy has never been an end in itself for Artek. The world of senses is always interesting and that was reason enough for us to get involved in the project," Mirkku Kullberg, managing director of Artek, said in a press release.
Regarding the furniture brand's credibility in the beauty industry, Kullberg explained that Artek has always had the "audacity to operate in fields that are not necessarily intrinsic parts of [our] business," adding that Standard was just another medium to communicate "a message about what Artek stands for today: being radical."
Indeed, the combination of metal and rust with notes of fennel, musk, and saffron doesn't sound like a safe people pleaser, which is in line with Comme des Garçons's other fragrances that are usually highly conceptual.
The two brands previously collaborated on a furniture range in 2007.
Standard, which is part of Artek's 75th anniversary celebrations, will first go on sale for around £50 (€55) at London's concept store Dover Street Market and at international Comme des Garçons and Artek outlets thereafter.
